Factual Information Obtained and Confirmed:
SmithKline Beecham manufactures brand name Paxil. There are no U.S. generic Paxil (paroxetine) manufacturers.
Paxil is FDA approved for the treatment of depression, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder, but may be used for other problems as well.
Paxil is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) medication.
It may take a number of weeks for Paxil to reach full therapeutic benefits.
Paxil is typically not considered an addiction producing drug but dependency can occur on this medication. Therefore, abrupt discontinuation can cause withdrawal symptoms. Gradual discontinuation is recommended.
Paxil is not a regulated controlled substance by the United States Food and Drug Administration
Usually it comes in 10 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, and 40 mg tablets.
Paxil is usually taken once per day. The initial dose is usually 10 mg per day. Daily maintenance doses can range from 20 mg to 60 mg per day

a friend who is taking this medication was told by a doctor, that it is being taken off the market. i am on these too is this true?
I am 41 years old and started taking 20mg of seroxat in november last year. The dose was increased to 40 then 50mg. One day i take 60mg and then next 40mg. My depression began to improve on this dose and I declared I was finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I was continued on this dose and have been on it for about two months. Recently I have had periods of what I can only explain as feeling manic. A couple of times i have been to parties and had a few drinks and done things completely out of character and without much inhibition. Last week after a row with my partner (and having felt odd all day) when we had been drinking, I attacked him physically. I cannot remember much of what happened even when it is relayed to me. I have mental blocks of the other occasions at the parties where drink was involved too. I know it wasnt the alcohol because I drink every weekend and had not had much. My relationship is now over. Is it the tablets?
I have been taking Paxil 10mg for 3 months and have noticed numbness in toes and nerve twitches around eyelids and sometimes in my legs.... Is this a side effect of Paxil? it is serious? and should I discontinue this drug and try a different medication. Pamelor has been suggested since I have some neuralgia from pelvic surgery also. How serious is the numbness in toes? EMG is normal.... and sensation in toes is constantly different/numb..... thank you Kim
I have been taking Paxil 10mg for 3 months and have numbness in toes and nerve twinges in legs at time and also around eyelids. Is this a serious side effect of Paxil? and should I switch medication? Pamelor has been suggested since I have some neuralgia pain due to pelvic surgery. thanks Kim
I was just wandering how drinking alcohol whilst taking paroxatine would effect me. I was picked up by the police for drink driving and even though I only had 4 drinks and it was about 3 hours since my last drink I blew very high numbers I was wandering if my medication had anything to do with this and if so why and how?
I have been on 40mg seroxat for 8 months after which I stopped taking it gradually for 4 and 1/2 months. 25 days later I started expesriencing headaches, night sweating, night nausea and diaherrea and sleeplessnes. Has any experienced such sydromns especially 25 days after stopping seroxat instead of immediately?
hi just wanted to know if paroxatine can cause you to be infertile. i just started taking it over two months ago and feel like i´m not ovualting as i usually have all the signs can it stop me getting pregnant or will my body get used to it thanks.
The first time I took this medication I was 19 or 20 years old. I took it for a few days and did not like the way it made me feel. I was very ill. My senses were hightened. I could hear my heart beating, feel the hairs on my arms and legs move when the air condition blew. There are many things I do not remember from this time in my life. (A little like a black hole that someone told me about.) The time is just blank for me. Several years later I started prozac which lead to major weight gain. I have taken most medications on this site and the one I ask for is Paxil. I can't get it now for some FDA reasons. I have not had the opportunity to research why I was told they were not approving it anymore. I have major depression and do not take medications regularly. (See prozac Misdiagnosed if approved) If I wait until am really feeling aweful, then I feel the medication working in my system. If I take it when I begin to feel bad, then the effects are not as bad. I know that most of the medications here supposedly take weeks or months to get in your system to do anything. Personally , I can feel the changes with Paxil in about 45 minutes to an hour. I don't always like the way it makes me feel but after a few days I am happy I took it. It really helps with the brainfog I seem to get with my depression. (i.e. remembering things, talking, understanding) I hope this helps someone. TiKi
I sufferered from post traumatic stress. In two months I had a misscariage (my baby was born alive and died at 16weeks in front of me), my father left my mother after 25 years of marriage (leaving my 6 and 12 year old sisters and she turned to drink) My other sisters couldn't help as one was recovering from her baby being born with her bowels on the outside and the other is a heroin addict. I have been constantly helping my family but one day my head just give. I couldn't breath for two weeks. I got a Doctor out first but they said stay in bed (easier said than done with a two year old). Then I was put on Buspar and Paroxetine (Buspar until the paroxetine worked)After 2 months I felt worse. I couldn't seem to get out of bed no matter how my son pleaded. Also I can't sleep properly at night and have very vivid dreams. I have stopped Paroxtine now for 4 days and feel like killing myself. I don't know whether it is worse on them or without. Please advise
I have just been issued a DUI. I thought my reading was way too high on the blow test. Does anyone know if this could be related to taking Paroxetine?
Editor's Note: Although your reading may have been incorrect, it is not due to Paroxetine. Alcohol meters measure the evaopration of ethanol from the lungs only (sometimes incorrectly). Paroxitine is not metabolized in the lungs at all, but small amounts of ethanol (alcohol) is.
I have been taking seroxat for 6 months now and am a heavy drinker, four or five nights a week. I do feel more deepressed the next day after drinking and know I should'nt be doing it, but I still feel a thousand better than I did; am going to have long term damage to my liver or brain?
I have been on Paxil on and off, for the pass seven years. I have obc and worry. It seems to help but at what cost. I have memory loss, no sex drive, I am alway tired but can't sleep, muscle aches, numbness in my toes, now all of the sudden my right eyelid is slightly swollen, my eyes are really dry, and I have night sweats. I don't know if this is all caused by Paxil but if anyone else has the eyelid swelling and dry eyes, please email me. I feel like I am going crazy, and I am scared to go off Paxil because everytime I do I go through HELL. Help
I am currently takin paroxetine and I was wondering if it would show up on my drug test that I will be taking at work in about a month or so.
