Factual Information Obtained and Confirmed:
AstraZeneca (Zeneca) Pharmaceuticals manufactures brand name Seroquel. There are no generic Seroquel ( quetiapine fumarate ) manufacturers.
Seroquel is a novel antipsychotic medication used to treat schizoprenia and psychotic disorders, but is also used to treat bipolar disorder and manic episodes.
Seroquel is thought to work by blocking (antagonizing) dopamine and serotonin at receptor sites in the brain.
Although you may feel Seroquel working within the first hour after ingestion, it may take a couple weeks to reach full therapeutic effect. If the medication reduces symptoms, it does not mean the illness has gone away forever.
Seroquel does not have a reputation for causing addiction.
Seroquel is a not regulated controlled substance by the United States Food and Drug Administration.
Usually it comes in 25 mg, 100 mg, and 200 mg tablets.
A realistic initial dose is 25 mg taken 2 times per day. A realistic target maintenance dose may range from 300 mg to 400 mg in divided doses each day. The manufacturer says that up to 800 mg per day have been tested for "safety".

all medication must be taken with an open mind
This was prescribed to me so that i can sleep- i was wondering if it has worked for any one instead of a sleeping pill, it has not worked for me thank you
My experience: I was prescribed seroquel for bipolar disorder - mainly the problem I could not cope with was intense panic episodes. - took two 25mg tabs at bed time as prescribed - fell completely and utterly asleep within 20 minutes... usually it takes me 1-2 hours of reading or tossing and turning. I forgot to even let the dog inside. next day: - NO anxiety... not even a smidge - markedly hungrier, with less motivation - slight tunnel vision - like dulled peripheral vision. In general I felt less aware of my physical situation and people around me. "Fight or flight" response (a big part of anxiety I guess) was basically nil. Poeple could walk in the room and I wouldn't even notice (or care) until they said something. Basically, if you are bipolar and anxious like me, this drug will make you feel "normal". I really do feel like a normal person - I can poke along in traffic on the freeway without the urge to race someone, I don't get a thrill out of much of anything, I'm lazy and hungry, I enjoy sitting still, and I really don't give a great big fuck about anything. I'm not stressing over stupid things, and my ambitions are suddenly quite limited. I'll definitely keep the seroquel around in case of emergency, but I think on a daily basis I'd rather be agitated, unstable self.
will seroquel show up as a benzodiazepine on a drug test
Although it may feel like it is acting like a benzodiadepnine in your system, Seroquel is actually a NOT a benzodiadapine drug and it should not show up on a drug test. However, you should consider the fact that it is a "dibenzothiazepine" drug; and if you are on probation or parole, you probably should tell your parole officer before the drug test that you are taking Seroquel (as well as any other meds you are on). But... If your drug test is for work, school, or otherwise non-law enforcement related, you may not want to tell them you are on Seroquel for obvious personal reasons. However, if it is a non-law enforcement drug test, you can always show them your prescription afterwards if you do get a false-positive drug test reading. A false-positive result is when a drug shows up in your system even though you did not take the drug. This can be caused by specimen contamination in the lab, poorly calibrated labratory equipment, ingesting a similar drug, unintentional ingestion of a drug (i.e., if someone slipped you a "micky" or the cook accidentially dropped a pill in your soup when you were at a resturant, etc.)
i have a mentally handicapped son on serquel when he awake from asleep he is always angry i have been told to increse the meds but the more he get the angry increses he has being taking for about 4years

I am a 53 yr old woman recently diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. I am taking 25 mg of Seroquel per day. I am not able to increase the dose as it makes me too sleepy. I find it best to take at around 7-8 pm as it affects me for a good 10 hrs. I now avoid alcohol altogether as it does not go well with this medication. A small price to pay. I am content with this medication and feel a lot more stable. Still have the occassional bad day, but much improved. Thanks.
Four years ago I was prescribed Seroquel after experiencing severe anixety. A few weeks after taking the medication my mind felt clearer, my anxiety was under control, and on top of it I got a great night's sleep. Then a few months ago I started taking more than the recommended dose. I was prescribed 200mg, but I started taking 400mg. After a few weeks, 400mg didn't seem like enough, so one night I took 600mg. That night, I fell asleep on my couch, and awoke to the sound of a phone ringing at 1:00 am. I was confused, and for a split second I thought I had died, and that satan would be on the ohter end of that line. It wasn't him. It was a stranger, with an unnaturally deep voice, almost synthetic sounding. He asked me some very stange questions, and told me to meet him outside. I was convinced he was planning on killing me. I hung up the phone, considered running for a knife, but instead decided to warn my parents before the stranger barged in. When I ran into their room screaming, they looked at me funny and tried to calm me. Don't screw around with seroquel. This mild auditory hallucination was easily the most terrifying moment of my life. Sinc then I've been taken off of it and have been prescribed the less addictive Geodon. Seroquel can work wonders for the anxious, the bipolar, and the schizophrenic, but take it with caution. You may want to reconsider taking this medication if you are prone to addiction.
I was just wondering what people's experiences of Seroquel were. I've been on it for a week now 400mg/day and am really starting to feel the side effects. One of the most obvious is that I've SLOWED DOWN an awful lot. It takes me twice the time now to do even the most menial of tasks. I've also become more forgetful. And my speech is a bit slurred which is embarrassing. I feel like a zombie and don't like talking to people any more. I'm on this medication I think for Schizo/Bipolar but not sure what the doctor's exact diagnosis is. Has anybody got any experiences from Seroquel similar/dissimilar to those above? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.
I am wondering if Seroquel could cause a drug test to show positive for amphetamines? I was told MAYBE by a nurse, I need more specifics. Thanks.

I have a friend who is diagnosed with bipolar and borderline personality disorder. His doctors have him on 1200 mg of this drug a day. I think that this is way too much, and as his assigned guardian i want to lower the dosage. He has been on 1200 mg of seroquel for as long as i have known him (about 1 year) should we "wing" him off of the high amount or drop it suddenly?
