Factual Information Obtained and Confirmed:
Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals manufactures brand name Zyprexa. There are no U.S. generic Zyprexa ( olanzapine ) manufacturers.
Zyprexa is a newer antipsychotic medication used to treat schizophrenia and psychotic disorders, but is also used to treat bipolar disorder and manic episodes.
Zyprexa is thought to work by blocking (antagonizing) dopamine and serotonin at receptor sites in the brain.
Although you may feel Zyprexa working within the first hour after ingestion, it may take a couple weeks to reach full therapeutic effect. If the medication reduces symptoms, it does not mean the illness has gone away forever.
Zyprexa does not have a reputation for causing addiction (in most cases).
Zyprexa is a not regulated controlled substance by the United States Food and Drug Administration.
Usually it comes in 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg , and 15 mg tablets and 5 mg and 10 mg Zyprexa Zydis orally disintegrating tablets.
A realistic initial dose is 2.5 mg or 5 mg taken once per day. A realistic target maintenance dose may range from 5 mg to 20 mg once a day. The manufacturer says that up to 20 mg per day have been tested for "safety".

I used Zyprexa for insomnia and a slight obsession, but quit after a week. It made me feel extremely disorientated and weak. I had tremendous headache - not helping me sleep better.
Please advise if you can, the chemical mechanism by which it is possible for zyprexa to reverse the sexual dysfunction caused by Effexor XR. I have been on and off of the drug several times in the past three years because of elevations in my fasting blood glucose. When I am on Zyprexa my sexual functioning is normal. When I discontinue the Zyprexa the sexual dysfunction is terrible. This drug was a God send to me in that it allowed me to sleep (I have terrible insomnia). It leveled off my mood and it took away the sexual dysfunction of Effexor. I only wish they could come out with a new formulation that didn't cause elevated blood glucose levels. Robras43
